This month’s cooking challenge was all about the party drink:
“Party drink – think fruit drinks/syrups, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, milkshakes etc. It’s Spring in the southern hemisphere and Autumn in the northern so let’s celebrate with fun drinks.”
I’ve been a little obsessed with green tea recently, so I thought I’d do two variations on the iced green tea (since it’s getting closer to summer here) – an iced green tea punch and a green tea mojito.
The iced green tea punch I basically just made up. I brewed some green tea, chilled it, then added some ginger ale and some mint. I also added some peaches because there’s been some really delicious looking peach drinks and desserts show up on pinterest recently and I also wanted to do something with peaches. They are so pretty and juicy! Unfortunately, it’s not peach season here, so I had to used canned peaches which are not as pretty. But I threw them in anyway. It all sounds a little random, but the end result was lovely and refreshing. I put the punch in a canister and took it to a picnic in the park. Swell.
I actually used a recipe for the Iced Green Tea Mojito, which I found here.
Basically, brew and chill tea as per above. In a tall glass, muddle lime juice, mint, some arugula (rocket) leaves and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Fill glass 3/4 full with ice, then add green tea and a shot of white rum (or not if you want to keep it virgin). And some extra slices of lime to make it look pretty.
Don’t forget to see what everyone else did:
