June Cooking Club: cauliflower soup

It’s that time again!  June’s cooking club was all about the season:

This month’s challenge = A dish featuring at least one item of in-season fresh produce

So for Australia we’re talking ingredients such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, fennel, mushrooms, potatoes, silverbeet, spinach.

Perfect! Seasonal cooking is the best. I love to embrace the seasons wholeheartedly in general, so in summer I’m all about the sun, the surf and massive fresh fruit platters, and in winter I can’t get enough of comfort foods. And with the rainy, cold weather we’ve been having this last week, what better choice than some hot cauliflower soup? (with lots of spices and pepper for extra warmth).

Curling up with this and a good book or movie is my definition of a wintry afternoon well spent!

Don’t forget to check out what the other participants whipped up this month:

Super excited to see my beautiful friend Farenn, over at Anything Squirrel Squirrel, joining in this month. Farenn’s living in the U.K. at the moment and I’m missing her like crazy, so it’s nice to be doing this together (albeit in different locations).

If you’d like to participate in next month’s cooking club challenge, head on over to Lucent Imagery and leave a comment. She’s the cooking club host and can fill you in on all the details.

    Hi Kylie,
Your cauilfower soup looks so nice and warming, the weather is so awful in England at the moment wet, cold and miserable that if it stays like this, I am tempted to try your recipe over the weekend! It nice to meet you through the cookery club.
    Sarah x

Hi Sarah, nice to meet you too! If you’d like the recipe in full please let me know and I can email it to you. Hope the weather warms up in England! x

  2. Faz says:

mmmm I love cauliflower! Your first cauliflower photo look so inviting…

  3. Perhaps surprisingly, some of our farms way over here in Northern California even grow cauliflower in the summer months. Your soup look good. What is on the side? Yogurt? Crème fraîche?

    • Kylie says:

That’s interesting about the Californian cauliflower! Whereabouts in CA do you live? I’ve travelled a bit through northern California, and fell a little bit in love with San Francisco.

Yep, that’s natural yoghurt on the side. I didn’t add any cream when I made the soup, so the yoghurt helps to make the consistency smoother. :)

  4. Mmmm yum yum, can I order this for the next cold night in??! I too love embracing the foods of the seasons. Thank you for participating in cooking club again and for inviting Faz to join us. The more the merrier!

  5. Tracey says:

Yum! Hot cauliflower soup you say? Can I just tell you that cauliflower is one of my favourite foods … and perhaps even my favourite vegetable. This looks and sounds amazing!! :)

    • Kylie says:

The soup was delicious! But my favourite way to have cauliflower is a little more decadent – smothered in cheesy white sauce. Yum! :)
